    Mission:
The mission of the Wyandot County Youth Commission is to partner
with youth to create a community that enhances the lives of youth and families.

    Purpose:
The Wyandot County Youth Commission is committed to inter-agency and organizational collaboration
toward optimal service delivery for the youth of Wyandot County.

    Background:
The Youth Commission (YC) was created in September, 2003 after the Wyandot County Health Alliance
conducted a comprehensive community needs assessment. Based on the information in the county-wide
survey, community leaders determined that youth issues needed to be the highest priority. It was apparent
that the community needed to respond more effectively to issues which negatively impact our young
people. Focus groups were conducted with area youth regarding what they perceived was needed in the
community to prevent kids from becoming involved in risky behaviors and to increase their overall well-
being. By-laws were adopted in May, 2004. The Youth Commission held its first public event in Carey on
August 10, 2004, and its first county-wide event was in Upper Sandusky on August 13, 2004, when city and
village parks opened their pools for free swim for families. By providing more opportunities for families to
participate in community events at little or no cost to the family, the YC creates and promotes a more family
    friendly community.

The Youth Commission invites community members to join based on their interest, support of purpose,
and intent to actively participate in our mission to enhance Wyandot County as a youth-friendly community.

Meetings are held on either the third or fourth Friday of the month year round (see our 2008 calendar) at
10:00 a.m.  Meeting duration is one hour. Meetings are held in the 1st floor conference room of Wyandot
County Job & Family Services (120 E. Johnson St., Upper Sandusky, OH 43351). Subcommittee meetings
    are scheduled as needed.
